Treacle Walker by Alan Garner

A weirdly polarizing book for some but a truly miraculous read for me. The wild and relentless surreality of Joseph Coppock's adventures with the Treacle Walker was at all times eclipsed by the fact that I was just a man sitting on a couch reading an ordinary book with ordinary letters on ordinary pages - which seemed at all times both suspiciously impossible and aggressively true.
